READ THEM…FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE!
i love reading materials – newspapers, magazines and journals!
i also love looking at large billboards!
in short, i can’t see any problem with regard to the print media.
Publishing newsletter inside the seminary is part of its tradtion. though there is the internet that is much widely read by the subscibers, we still publish and take the risk of putting out articles and news via “the harvest”. why, because of the thought that not everybody is computer or internet literate. not all can just bring theri computers anywhere so as to read our net published documents. it’s good to write and print articles as one of the means, today, to reach out to people.
print media is still relevant. we must not take it for granted for it stil give good info which gets high demans from its readers.
read all the valuable printed materials for heaven’s sake!

Radio:
To Listen or Not to Listen?
I love listening to music or things of audio-type. Though it doesn’t give pictures or colors, it still makes me highly imaginative and creative. The reason is that, in the absence of the visual aids, my mind is able to fly and create things out of the sound that I hear. The information may not be seen but upon listening to it, I learn how to value the so called appreciation of the absence of the higher good – other stuffs much better and much upgraded than radios.
Radio is not a nearly extincting good. In fact, it becomes more and more upgraded and commercialized. People may not have TV but radio can’t be away from them. It becomes a necessity. We don’t need current to activate it. Simple batteries would do. It is very handy. People may carry it anywhere especially the mini-radios (MP3/MP4 players) that are becoming more and more in demand today which can’t be of the same level as that of the computers and TVs.
Radio is very handy. It is even much cheaper than the others. It brings info as nice as the other alternatives can do. News and important issues can also be transmitted through it. Music can even be much appreciated by just hearing it. Multi-programs and variety shows can also be found via radio. It is still highly used and highly commended by different types of people.
So, radio must not be ignored or belittled. Radio is important not just by mere hearing the sound coming out from it but by listening to the values and lessons that it gives to the listeners!
Happy listening!

FILM MAKERS…BEWARE!
When I comment after viewing or watching a film, the credit/merit or the demerit goes to the persons involved in the film – the actors and the people behind the actors. Why? It is because they are the main responsible people of the film that they present to the masses. They are accountable to whatever scenes and imageries are received and perceived by the audiences. They are also responsible for the effects of the film that they made as watched by the viewers.
Why do I have to pinpoint the people behind the film? Foremost, they must be agents on how the people viewers should be educated/instructed via film. They must know the potential bad effects that their film might instruct or deliver the people. They must produce the films which really uplift morality and which have sensitivity to all the people who might watch their film. They must scrupulously make and blend the film before presenting it to the fanatics. They must not always take a risk or focus on the success and earnings that they may acquire. They must look primarily on the attention of the people and their situations and status.
So, film makers, beware! When nobody instructs people, do the initiative for basically, you benefit a lot and acquire merits from us – viewers!

it iSn’t jUSt a tEchNoLogY…
Television is one of the important things in my life. It’s as if i can’t live without it. But why give so much importance on it? Because…it is TV – that’s it!And to elaborate more, here are some of the impacts on why i’d fight for the importances of TV in my being.
First, it entertains me – no need to go through this!
Second, it makes me aware of the things that are happening around (I’m saying here
of the news and documentaries).
Third, it gives a lot of information which upgrade my intellectual capacity or make me more knowledgeable.
Fourth, it doesn’t just, for me, present shows for mere viewing. it gives me an instance where I can be more critical, analytical and sensitive (the sounds, pictures, videos and colors that when combined together make me more imaginative)!
Fifth, it paves way for a better communication and opportunities ahead. Meaning, it presents ads which are more attractive and which have good info and details.
Sixth and the last, I LOVE IT as most of us do!
This television is a big part of my life. It isn’t just a technology which everybody benefits from it. this is a tool to enhance one’s life. This is an instrument which makes us aware of the real issues today – we eradicate our ignorance. Though bad efects can’t be separated from this, this is made for us to be updated. But we must not let this thing enslave us!

Care for Media Education?
We are now living in a world where computers dominate. I don’t mean that humans are becoming dull and less knowledgeable. I want to emphasize that our technology is becoming better and better and higher. With this technological advancement, people utilize it and get in touch with it to the point of overusing or abusing it even without the correct knowledge on how to apply and be in with the flow of this progress that we are experiencing. There is now the dominion of technology over the human capacity of knowing its principles and basic uses.
So what’s my point here? I want to share to you the proper attitude and approach why we need this correct media education. This media literacy has the objective of educating people on the proper use and approach to the technological advancement that we have today i.e., computer enhancement (internet) and radio/TV craze. Its importances are the imparting of knowledge about media so that people won’t just use it out of its being in demand; so that people will know the limitations on the use of media; so that people will learn the real values and points on media awareness. In short, we know how to be “in” but we don’t know why we are “in”. We need not just run with the flow – we need to stop when it is necessary and focus on the real aspects of media education.
Here are some examples why proper education on media awareness is important:
1.) When we watch TV (commercials, shows), we tend to imitate or buy their offered products because of the trend and the artists who advertise those. That’s the normal thing – but it is very abnormal. Proper media catch-up is telling us that we must learn how to be on our own and buy accroding to our needs. TV shows are just guide, they aren’t our boss and dictators!
2.) Billboards really bring great impact to al its viewers. Those are just campaigns and mere advertisements. They mustn’t be praisednorbe brought to the highest level. To imitate is not bad, but imitating without the essential purpose is what makes it bad and even worse.
3.) On the use of the internet – yes, we know how to operate it, go to the different websites, blogs and e-mails. But the problem is that people don’t know why be with the trend without even knowing the basic principles and approaches of using internet.
These three examples are instances or a wake up call why media education is important. All we need is to beproperly educated with regard to the media so that our usage of it will not make us slaves, instead will deepen and widen our knowledge in the horizon of technology and upliftment.
Media Education is important because it brings to the right direction or awareness on how to utilize media in our daily activities!

it is in the disposition of the person and his own conviction when he would perceive the unperceivable, hear the unhearable and know the unknowable.
all he needs is transcendence, self mastery and concentration.
silence is needed…
being one with the nature is highly recommended…
total surrendering of oneself for goodness sake makes it!
would you now like to…
hear, perceive and know the unhearable, unperceivable and unknowable?

life is so absurd. sometimes you’re happy…other times your not!
sometimes you’re eager to go on…sometimes you feel so tired and exhausted.
is this the kind of life that is really for me?
well, i think i don’t deserve this…nobody deserves to have a ruined life. but there are moments when we think we must go on and leave the life that we are into at the present. it’s not an escape. you’ll just have to ask yourself…”do i have to pack my things…and go?”
friends, let’s not fool ourselves. let’s be true. if you we think that it’s right to move on…then go. but if you go and pursue another kind of life, make sure that God is beside you during your decision making.
pack your things now and live!

later had i realized that a dead mouse was inside of it. that was a terrible experience!]

do we really need proof in order to believe?
obvious things are not an issue anymore!
unseen things are to be talked about?
proofs are proofs!

yes we are rational beings! it’s our natural tendency to think and reason out all of the times! but aren’t we getting tired of it?
personally, it sucks! it really sucks! rationality does not alone constitute our whole being! we also need to express our emotions and feelings. we are not robots! yes we can think and reason out, but what then is the use of our heart?
sometimes our excuses becomes like these: “i’m rational…this is what i think…!” with this, we are imprisoned in our own world. we never try to reach out and be wholistic!

Whew! tough question!
i am a seminarian…a human too! i’m not exempt to falling in love! in fact whenever i see beautiful faces (and bodies as well), i can’t but feel and say to myself that God really makes wonderful creations!
going now to my point, seminarians are thought to be so romantic whenever they express their feelings to certain “chick(s)”. i can’t explain it, for it is very mysterious. the Holy Spirit may be intervening as they court or make some segue ways! but the question is…are seminarians boyfriend material!
well, they might appear to be but the truth is they are not! they don’t fall into relationships just to be a material of the women! they are normal people who must also gain due respect as they go on with a mutual and natural relationship (opposite sex). in fact women must have to think twice, thrice and for a million times if they would have to use their seminarian boyfriends. why? because seminarians all out giving of support mustn’t be abused instead must be a pride of the women.
yes! seminarians give their effort and their most romantic way in order to have a good relationship. but that mus’nt be misinterpreted by women! they must even be thankful for the Lord is with them in their relationship!
so, what do you think?

“The worst thing to be feared is the fear itself”.
I’m a coward. But now I’m trying to be brave in presenting to you my shallow philosophical view on the things and the causes of my fear. But before my knees shake and be fearful that you may not recognize or like this simple speech, let me say to you some words. I would like you, my beloved listeners, to put away first and abolish all your presuppositions and preconceived judgment about the topic of fear. I’m requesting this so, because I want you to grasp and understand without any bias in your mind, what I’m going to impart to you. And please make me not fearful as I speak in front of you for I might not deliver every word as understandable as it must be. I rarely speak in front of a crowd because I don’t have the guts. I call that as a “simple fear”. Why do I say this so? I intended to include those stuffs because they may serve as the opening or the starting point of my presentation and explanation about my account on the things that I fear.
I have a gift – a gift of seeing things, which are unusual and which are beyond the reality of this world. It just came out like a natural phenomenon that comes and goes suddenly or abruptly. It may be a gift or an extra human power but for me it is something to be feared. It’s an abnormal thing and I don’t want to live in a different and unusual life. Maybe it can be called as an act of cowardice but it’s what I feel and you can’t take my fear away from me because it signifies me and it’s my nature. Having an extra sensory perception (ESP as it is commonly called), which is so powerful, and at the same time being fearful or afraid of having it, is somewhat a terrifying combination of two powerful aspects of feelings: both sensory and emotions. Why do I say that it is terrifying? It is my philosophy that I can’t live well or be so at ease if I have these things in me which I can’t accept or I even don’t like. It’s like the attitude of Socrates about intelligence: he has it, but he denies it and remains humble while performing greatly and putting all his effort in the line of philosophy. Well, we have a different case but more or less, the idea goes in one direction – the denying or unacceptance of the things that is existent in oneself.
In addition, this fear that I’m encountering is also due to lack of bravery (of course) and due to my powerful imaginations. Lack of bravery means being so weak and a “never going through” process or “I can’t do” manner. Having powerful imagination means, making the object as an issue of your own fear. Yes I can explain all of these things – from the gift of ESP to imaginations per se, but I’m still afraid. I know the means how to overcome this problem, but sometimes, the means are the ones that fear me and that lead me to be more fearful.
When, where, why, and how do I get fearful? I become afraid whenever I feel something uncanny, observe something that is unusual and see something that is extraordinary or someone who is no longer living. This means that I am a sensual and an emotional being. I can’t resist without light or pretend to be brave or strong even though my balls are shaking and my heart is fast beating because of the fear in the dark. I don’t want to be alone. Never will I be. And I get fearful because I can feel the things that are felt by extra-gifted people. I become fearful because I’m coward and I’m afraid to face the reality in me which sometimes leads me to question if it is really given by God – to see and feel unexplainable things. I don’t have this confidence of facing the reality and I don’t have the guts to conquer what I fear because when my nerves get loose and become so eerie, all the parts of my body agree with each other not to function and to surrender from going through that fear. Moreover, I get fearful through the idea that I might see weird things again the time I’m alone and experience unusual phenomenon through my strong and too sensitive senses. Practically all of my statements answer the questions given at the course of this discourse.
While I was formulating this shallow thought, I imagined that someone or something unusual is just beside me, that’s why I was in a hurry in synthesizing my thoughts. Anyway, I just continued thinking of the fear as a subject of my ideas and making it as a sign that I have a great existence. Truly, fearing the ghosts, seeing and experiencing them, my life became so different and unusual!
“The worst thing to be feared is the fear itself”.

The greatest gift that I received from God is the gift of being “I am”.
My mother gave me the name Paolo. I love it. Whenever somebody calls me by my name, I’m flattered because s/he appreciates my mom’s indelible gift to me. If someone labels me another tag, I feel no different because it’s a sign that I’m existing. It’s also a manifestation of my multi-faceted personality. With those situations I really feel that I am!
Many people had given me harsh judgments. They give immediate impressions, unknowledgeable about my self. Some really hurt me. They are forgiven. Some makes me feel embarrassed. They become my source of strength and inspiration. I freely accept all of their misinterpretations against me, though, I want them to recognize and know the real I – a person who always tries to understand others; a person who is gentle but strong; a person who is all-out giving; a person who is loving and caring; a person who gives what is due for others; and a person who wears his face with no pretense. I am not saying that I’m always good. It just happened that I also possess some of the characteristics or qualities that a real good person has. I also commit mistakes and silliness. I am!
In knowing me, you don’t need a telescope in order to see my inmost being and my deepest thoughts. You don’t have to use magnifying lens so as to view my persona. I’ll make myself nearer and open for you to capture me. I’ll make myself bigger and present so that you wouldn’t waste your time in seeking me. With these, you can make myself yours. But, please, respect me for I also need privacy. Give what is due to me.
People around are my great critics. They always tend to identify me according to their own likeness and image. They only know me in the level of their mind. But I don’t need to make them change their perspective so as for me to be always good and appealing in their eyes. I don’t need to please them and make them believe in me. I’ll just show to them who really I am. I’ll just present them myself as a true person.
I am not the product of their way of thinking. I am not what they want me to be. I am not the image and picture of a person who is in their critical mind. I am what God plans about me. I am who I am! I am Paolo! I am!
(my first piece with Mr. Los Baños’ speech class)
